Customer Description

Onsite Insight (OI) provides operations support to small and mid-sized manufacturers and industrial trades. They help business owners by creating systems, developing people and nailing their compliance.

Based in Timaru, OI is led by Beth Park, the owner and director, who works with a network of collaborators and subcontractors.

Their Needs

Beth was introduced to Shorthouse Consulting via Fiona Stevens from the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, with funding support from MBIE’s Regional Business Partner network.

She was looking for a business and marketing strategy that would help her shift from a lifestyle business to a scalable operation. With a new contractor joining the team and a changing client offering, she needed clarity on direction, structure, and how to articulate Onsite Insight’s value.

Beth said she knew she needed to increase the awareness of OI, but wanted to do it in a way that felt authentic. She disliked what she saw in others as ‘self-promoting’ and ‘fluffy’ and wanted OI marketing to be authentic and practical. She admitted that marketing felt intimidating and outside of her comfort-zone, so wanted an approach that was sustainable to do on an ongoing basis.

What We Did

Since mid-2024, Beth has worked with Shorthouse Consulting across a blend of:

  • Online workshops

  • Monthly check-ins

  • A one-day strategy session

  • Tactical marketing activities

Together we built a strategic business plan, breaking the work into manageable stages. We clarified OI’s three core service areas and developed a clearer understanding of ideal target customers and how OI helps them.

A content plan and marketing calendar helped streamline content creation—we can now repurpose a single piece of content across multiple channels, increasing reach without adding pressure. You can check out Beth’s short videos of tips and advice on Onsite Insight’s LinkedIn page.

Monthly check-ins and ongoing support make sure the plan is grounded and practical to deliver.

“It feels like I am just catching up with a good friend who just has amazing advice,” she says.

“It’s just part of the business now.”

Penny from Shorthouse Consulting, supports content design and visibility, allowing Beth to focus on other areas of the business.

Results

Beth says the support has made a difference on multiple levels:

  • Clarity on messaging, who they target and how they help people

  • Confidence to assess new opportunities and decide if they are a good fit

  • The strategy has reduced ‘cognitive overload’

  • Better understanding of how to use marketing to support the wider business and sales efforts

  • A repeatable system for creating and reusing content, improving effectiveness without extra work (more bang for buck) and significantly increasing OI awareness

  • Increased working ON the business and a focus on priorities

  • Valuable reflections on the business journey to date, including successes and progress

“You’re the real deal. You’re strategic, grounded, and easy to work with.” says Beth.

“You bring clarity without the fluff, really listen, and help me move things forward in a way that fits me and my business.
I’d recommend you in a heartbeat to anyone who wants practical support that’s thoughtful, personal, and actually makes a difference.”
